March Madness

Friday, March 11th, 2011

As you might expect January is a crazy month to reserve all your wedding services.  With Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s all within a month or so of each other, they are prime occasions to get engaged.  January always officially kicks off Wedding Planning season.  Now you would expect it to go straight through February.  Many companies stats are saying the opposite.

Two types of Brides come out of the January gate.  The first type gets her whole wedding planned within 2 of 3 weeks of January.  Church, Facility, DJ, Photographer, Video, Flowers….DONE!  Many of these brides have been expecting to get engaged around this season.  They have attended as a guest or been in many weddings already so they know who and what they are looking for!  The second type of bride likes to enjoy the whole planning idea.  They use January and February to do all the show hopping, internet searching, list planning, etc.  This type of bride usually sets her goal of March to tie things down.  They use January and February to do all of the research leaving no stone unturned.

With all that being said, that leaves February usually slow compared to January and March.  This year we set a record with bookings in January.  Our February beat last year’s numbers in sales.  March is on pace to surpass January.  What also helps the March bookings is Valentine’s Day as well.  The bride who thought she was getting engaged at Christmas, gets engaged in February, so she runs rampant through the planning process and locks up EVERYTHING by the middle of March.

You might be wonder why we would mention all this.  Our goal is to help future Brides plan.  Telling you what the busy months are will allow you to use the slower months to maybe get more one on one attention with a Wedding Professional of your choice.  The bottom line is whether you want to get the planning done, or enjoy the moment, January through March is the best Wedding Planning season!  Companies are just finished from a crazy year.  They have new ideas and are looking for a fresh start in the New Year!  It is a win/win for Future Newlyweds as well as Wedding Professionals!

As we continue our “Give Back Campaign.”  This month a portion of all bookings will go to Point Pleasant Little League and Brick Little League for team sponsorships.  Now we did say we would not just write a check.  So, Joey Kidd has donated his time to Manage a Minor league team at Brick Little League, as well as their Travel AAU 8 year old team.  As we did with the Polar Bear Plunge in February by raising awareness of Special Olympics, this time please help support your local spring recreation teams.  Just by buying a candy bar or a t-shirt for a fund raiser, you help support youth sports by allowing the leagues to provide equipment and services to give kids something to do besides sit around playing video games or getting in trouble.

As always we thank you all for reading our blog, supporting our causes, and choosing us to entertain at your event!

Have a Great Spring!

2011 Polar Bear Plunge

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Many people become successful.  Many people do what they love.  But not many people give back.

We are Blue Collar guys raised in a Blue Collar world.  It is our turn to help try and make a difference.

Over a month ago, we announced our intention to donate a portion of our monthly bookings to various charities.  We also decided we were not going to simply write a check, but that we were also going to get involved.  For the month of February we picked the Polar Bear Plunge in Seaside Heights, NJ to raise money for the Special Olympics.  Not just because we wanted to jump in 38 degree water for the fun of it!  lol!  But because it is an organization that hits close to home for us both.  Dave’s brother, Darren and Joey Kidd’s nephew, Joey, both have Down Syndrome.  Daily they are an inspiration to us and our families.

When we decided to do this, the last thing we were expecting was other people to get involved.  Our plan is just to have us donate from the company and participate in an event with just Dave and Joey or perhaps an employee or two helping out.  We did not expect to have 9 people Plunge into the frigid Atlantic along with us.  Nor did we expect that the $350 we donated for the month would increase to just under $3500 from all of our GREAT family, friends, colleagues, fans and clients.  Along with that fact that some of us were crazy enough to jump in the water, that we would have over 30 people there just to watch us FREEZE, including Dave’s brother Darren!!

Not only did we Plunge, but our great friend Susan Anderson from Something Blue Photography photographed the day along with Joey Kidd’s wife, Stacy and many other friends.  Many of our Plunge photos are on our Facebook Fanpage, http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/NJsBestDJscom/109234705183.  Our brave Plungers that braved the waters along with Dave and Joey Kidd included Dave’s wife Clelia, son DJ and Step-Brother Brett Hill.  Photo booth Specialists Jon Keller and Ed “Jersey Shore” Grill.  Fellow DJ Jesse Anstett.  Dave’s High School buddies Bill Perkert and Chris Lowe plus Dave’s family friend Barbara Johnson.  We personally cannot thank them enough for being of part of this day.

Next year we plan on having over 25 people plunge with us and raising 3′xs the amount!

Moving forward we will be involved heavily in various organizations.  We will keep all of our friends and fans posted on our where abouts and contributions.  We again thank everyone involved this past month and look forward to next year!

PS  If you know someone who needs entertainment for their event…. Yea, we still do that too!!!  LOL

Need A DJ?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

I saw this same topic posted by a great entertainer out of Vegas on Facebook.  Last year I blogged about the same thing.

“How much for a DJ?”

I will make this very short and easy to understand.  Remember, the idea is only to be a bride once, so making the right decision is crucial.

The average NJ wedding is over $30k.  The number one thing Newlyweds cut corners with according to every major bridal website and magazine in entertainment.

Those same sites tell you the 2 things people remember at a wedding are what the bride looked like and how much they danced or fun they had.

When selecting your entertainer.

1.  You need to have seen them in action or watch a video of that specific person that will be at your wedding.

2.  You want to meet that person during the sales session, not just a sales person.  Having a sales person there is great, but you want to talk specifically to the entertainer who is going to be at your day to make sure you know if you click now and not find out that you don’t later.

3.  It must be a 2 person package, with an entertainer (Emcee) and DJ (Music Mixer).  This way the day flows smoothly and flawlessly from transitions of announcements, music and formalities.

4.  Whomever you choose MUST be willing to do what you want, not what they want.  Most Entertainment companies will build the package (lights, plasmas, montages, photo booths, etc.) that you want.  Plus, a few weeks prior to the wedding they will lay out your entire day with you picking what YOU want and DON’T want.  An experienced entertainer will help you make your vision become a reality by working hard to make it happen and also explaining when things may not be able to happen, but finding a solution that will make what you want happen.

Anybody can be a DJ.  Just take an iPod, some speakers and go.  But only few can be wedding entertainers.

That is a unique combination of DJ, entertainer, host, speaker, and planner.  Mixed with personality, humor, attention, experience and fun.

Sounds hard to find.  But they are out there.  Trust me.  In this area alone of Central Jersey, quite a few.  But you need the one that fits YOU!

NJ’s Best DJ’s as of February 1, 2011 have launched a new initiative.  We are going to donate a portion of all our bookings to a various charity monthly.  However, we are not just going to write a check.  We are going to get involved.

For years we have donated and discounted our DJ services for various charitable events and fundraisers.  We will continue to do that, but now we are going one step farther.

Every month or so we will find an event to get involved in and participate, while donating some proceeds of our work and raising money for great causes!

American Bridal Showcases

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

When looking for wedding professionals, personal referrals from friends and family are always the best source. Why? Because they have experienced working with or being a part of that professionals work. Of course, you want to be sure for yourself. Besides a consultation in that wedding professional’s office, a bridal show can be just as good.

Why? Simple, there are usually more than just that one of a particular service there. Granted, you will not get the one on one attention, but you can get an idea of their work, personality and style. Remember, price is not everything. You get one chance to get your wedding right, experienced and finished product is extremely important. The shows allow you to start to narrow down your choices.

Go to a show with a particular Wedding Professional you want to see. For example, a dj. The majority of Bridal Showcases have two DJ companies performing and perhaps another company with booth space. This will allow you to see if you are interested, to then proceed with a consultation.

We have personally be involved with every major bridal show company in the central Jersey area, some are really good, some not so good. For Wedding Professionals you want consistency. A solid turnout, different brides at every showcase, not just the same future bride’s week in and week out.

For brides- to- be you want a variety of wedding professionals. Two or three of every service, not six photographers or five DJs. Just enough of each service to help you start narrowing things down.

Our experience with American Bridal Showcases is that they provide the best quality shows around. Solid attendance at all shows, variety of brides on a regular basis and usually not over three of the same service at an event. It has been a win win situation for future newlyweds and wedding professionals for a very long time.

Best of luck!

All our best,

The Difference

The Difference

When you plan to get married, you get swamped with advice. From family, friends, co-workers, people you run into in the street who know you’re getting married. It seems everyone knows somebody in the wedding business. A Photographer, Videographer, Florist, Limo and of course a DJ.

It seems that everyone knows a DJ. Their cousin, friend of a friend, neighbor down the street. Which is fine but not just any DJ can entertain at a Wedding.

Rule Number 1 – It should never be a one man DJ at a Wedding…NEVER. To have one of the biggest event of your lives, It should be an Emcee that you are comfortable with (I’ll explain) and their personal Music Mixer.

2 DJ’s to help make sure the introductions go flawless, announcements go seamless and there is never a blip in the celebration. You don’t want one guy running back and forth to his system to change music and make announcements or just standing in the back of his system making announcements. It’s professional and not for a wedding. We do not offer any one person wedding packages.

Rule 2 – You have to be able to relate to your Emcee. Remember, this is the guys you are going to spend the next 4 or 5 hours with at an event you have planned for your whole life. You want to make sure that you like him, he has your style you want, his personality is what you were looking for and that he is experienced. And I just don’t mean an experienced DJ, an experienced wedding entertainer.

With us, you get to pick your entertainer that is right for you, you don’t meet with just a salesperson, and you meet with your entertainer prior to booking him. We want to make sure you are comfortable with them, especially if you have never seen them in action.

3. Testimonials – See what previous brides have had to say. Not from 5 years ago, but from the last year, the ones who just had them entertain.

We have over 60 bridal testimonials from the last year available right online. http://www.weddingwire.com/vendor/VendorViewStoreFront?mode=edit&tab=reviews

4. Upgrades – Uplighting, Photobooths, Intelligent lighting, Plasma Screens, Photo Montages, Customized Monograms etc…Many companies offer these items, but not many know how to use them. What I mean is we have a professional staff that handles all facets of these upgrades. Setting up, technically operating everything and breaking down.  Our techs are among the best in the business.

5. Customer Service – We have an office conveniently located on Rt 35 North in Point Pleasant that many clients have describes as their own living room. There is nothing office about it.  It’s like being at home. Phone Calls, emails, questions are answered always within the same business day. All night time inquiries, first thing next morning. If we don’t have the answer people are looking for, we find it. Even if the solution doesn’t involve us. It has never been about us, always the newlyweds.

The amount of DJ companies out there that have the same beliefs, experience and integrity that we do is limited, but they are out there.  We have the utmost respect for them, as they do us, as well.

All Our Best!

Learn from the Past, Progress with the Future

As we set to write the first blog of the New Year, let me make a couple notes. First, I got home from my New Year’s Eve Event at 430am. I was up at 8, go figure, and I’m preparing for a wedding that I need to entertain at in 3 hours. So, with that being said, if I ramble, I apologize now. lol.

The Thanks are endless. In less than two years we entertained at roughly 300 events, 275 weddings in the last year with only four entertainers. To our trusting clients, past present and future, we thank you for your trust and support.

Next, our staff. Joe Shodowski and Markus Manley. Two incredible entertainers who have devoted countless hours to their clients, bridal showcases and our company. We Thank You tremendously.

Jayme, Kimmee, Katherine and Lauren. Your devotion to sales, showcases and assisting all year has been invaluable, the thank yous could go on forever.

Dan, Dave’s main music mixer. Your always on time eager to work and give 110% always Dan, Thank you.

Keri, Joey Kidd’s main Music Mixer or should we say lifeline. Keri has been assisting Joe for almost 6 years and without her he would be lost. Any compliment, thank you or tip, has never just said “Joey” on it, it has always said Joey and Keri. For those who read this that are in the business know what a long way that type of Client compliment goes. Keri, we thank you.

Most people think that we show up for 4/5 hours at a wedding and that is it. Roughly 20+ hours go into each event prior and it is done by the entertainers and their assistants, not just Joey Kidd and Dave. There is no personal time for Family, Friends and Kids on the weekends which is something that we will never get used to, so again our thanks for your dedication and sacrifice.  It’s something we will never forget and we also thank our spouses, children and families for understanding.

To all the Wedding Professionals who help, guide, compliment and refer us, you know who you are, Thank you.

As we move to the New Year, our New office has been a godsend! Couples have constantly complimented on the cool, relaxed atmosphere we have provided for the planning of what could be at times one of the most stressful events in your life. With the likely addition of one to two entertainers this year, an expansion in space is already in the works.

Our most popular addition this year is our new Photo booth! Since November 1st 40% of our clients are adding this great feature during their reservation process. Up lighting and Plasma screens follow in suit as great assets that have improved wedding atmospheres this year.

As we grow and move forward our strive for Customer Satisfaction and Quality Events will be more Prominent than ever!

We Thank you all again and we look Forward to a ROCKING 2011!

Craziest Engagement Story

Craziest Engagement Story

Being around the wedding industry as long as we have, we have seen it or should I say, heard it all. The stories that we hear are usually anything but normal. Just like every other situation in life, people are always trying to outdo the other.

Some engagements are simple. The gentleman asks the father of the bride for her hand, then takes her to dinner, and in this area to the beach to pop the question.

There have been the vacation proposals. We have heard that the question has been popped at an Island Resort, the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Eifel tower… you get the idea.

Some of our favorites, because we are sports nuts, are the games. We have been told about the drop to one knee on the Star of the 50 yard line in Texas stadium. To the proposal in Yankee Stadium. Get your favorite band involved and you have the U2 concert, Aerosmith and my personal favorite, Phish concert (how would they remember? lol!)

An original idea is great. But what about the sentimental route. The groom who relived the first date over again. Who flew the parents in to the exotic engagement location. The guy who really proposed from his heart and soul.

I know people are crazy with the holidays coming up, but if you have an original engagement story, we would love to hear it.

Have a Great Holiday!
